How can science displace Faith - when it is simply physical measurements?

it seems like you're saying that even if science could explain all natural phenomena, including the origin of the universe, you'd still believe in a creator. well if that's true, I just wonder, why bother? seems like nothing more than metaphysical varnish, to me.
