How could I artfully destroy a piece of paper for a project?

I was going to tear it a bit and step on it with a muddy footprint--but I'm afraid it wont really be considered art (the project has to be a visual art) any ideas? maybe paint? it should look brutal, like someone has crushed your dreams haha...thanks!!
